contributed by Alan Wheatley
There’s a possum in our garage and does he look surprised!
(With apologies to children’s writer Hazel Edwards).

Unfortunately, during the recent heatwave, it would have been too hot for Possum under the garage roof. He disappeared and we have not seen him since.
A cute-looking critter. However, he doesn’t look to me the same as the possums in North America. About forty years ago, a mama possum had her young in one of our clothes closets in a guest bedroom. We found them because our cat was behaving strangely near the closet.
They were peacefully escorted outside using a cooking pan with a cover.
Colin
This is a brushtail possum. It is about the size of a cat with a bushy tail.
We also have another type of possum which is smaller. It uses its tail to hold on to branches. It is known as a ringtail possum.
