Theme Story Ideas for April:

• If only I had a crystal ball.

• There was once a chance I didn’t take.

• Picture theme – Waving Hello

Looking Ahead:

This March edition of Bonzer! will be the final one to appear in this form. From 1st April, we are changing to a new method of display, featuring everything as Recent Posts.

All your favourite categories will still be there, with contributions from all our regular writers. You can choose to scroll down the listing of Posts and click on the title, or click on a specific category in the side-bar index if you prefer. Posts will be listed with the most recent at the top of the screen. Once the post is displayed, you will be able to add comments just as before.

For writers, nothing will change. You will continue to send submissions to the Bonzer! editor, just as you have always done.

BonzerPlus, will continue to operate just as it did before, with Posts appearing throughout the month at the top of the main listing.

Don’t forget to check out the Editor’s Message each month, for all the latest news, and also Snippets, which changes constantly, for a magical mix of puzzles, trivia, and odds and ends.

We believe it will not take long for you to get used to the new format. We have found it necessary to do this, to reduce the workload on the Production Team. If you have any queries, please contact the Webmaster, who will do his best to answer your questions.

BonzerFest 3 – Save the Date:

Details upcoming in future issues.

Bonzer! archive addict that I am… for no particular reason… just for fun… I took myself back to our first March – year 2002, issue #8 – and found “a treasure trove” as some might quaintly put it, of March surprises.

March 1st In the ancient Roman calendar, this day was the feast of the Matronalia, when patrician women held feasts for their slaves.

George Washington’s way of curing colds was to eat a toasted onion before going to bed.

March 2nd The first ballet is produced in London in 1717.

March 3rd in 1895 Munich, Germany, begins to give a driving test for bicycle riders. Those who pass receive license plates for their bicycles.

Doll Festival in Japan. Also called Peach Blossom Festival since, to the Japanese, that flower symbolizes the little girls whose dolls are honoured on this day. Their dolls are on display, but this is really the big day for little girls.

March 8th 1910. The first woman obtains a pilot’s license. In Paris, Baroness Raymonde de Laroche.

March 12th An old superstition says that it’s best to sow and transplant when the moon is waxing, never when it’s waning. This has now been proven true scientifically.

March 18th The first public buses in Europe were run in Paris in 1662, under Louis XIV. Intended for the city’s poor, who could not afford to hire carriages, the buses became a fad among the fashionable, who jammed them for the first months. After that, the poor would have nothing to do with them, and the service was discontinued.

March 21st Johann Sebastian Bach born, 1685.

March 28th The first washing machine patented in the U.S., 1797.

March 29th To get rid of the barnyard smell of new feathers for stuffing pillows (as you do), ask the baker to put them in his oven for one or two nights.

March 31st Eiffel Tower in Paris completed, 1889.

Although we can’t agree who said it first, ’tis true: The more things change the more they stay the same.

Happy Reading,

Gloria
